Metsweding District Municipality building torched by criminal act!

The Story

Metsweding offices located at Ekandustria close to Ekanagala Township and a local municipal office in Ekangala, were torched by a group purporting to be protesting against disruption in their electricity supply.  However, we would like to share the following facts to clarify the background surrounding this criminal act.

Eskom unevenly informed consumers about disruption in their electricity supply starting from 28th of March 2008 to 5th April 2008, because of their maintenance work on one of their substations at Ekandustria which suffered damage from lightening on the 25th of March 2008 on one of the only two transformers.  From the 28th of March 2008, Eskom started a process of replacing the damaged transformer working day and night until the 3rd of April 2008.  An intermittent electricity supply schedule was communicated to the community by Eskom, though not widely circulated, indicating that certain sections will be without supply for three (3) hour intervals.  The intermittent supply was from the other transformer that could not handle the load.  This made it almost impossible to follow the schedule as a new dimension came into the picture.
