THE VISION- The vision of the campaign is to have, by 2010, a green and litter free district by having all the townships within Metsweding District Municipalities litter free townships. OBJECTIVES- The objective of this programme is to intensify awareness on littering and promote a clean and healthy environment. BACKGROUND- The Metsweding District Municipality in collaboration with its Local Municipalities(Kungwini and Nokeng tsa Taemane) embarked on an Environmental awareness and cleaning campaign for a period of four days under the theme I Keep Metsweding Clean, Do You?, from the 07th to 10th October 2008. The Executive Mayor of Metsweding District Municipality, Ms A Mlondobozi launched the programme on the 07th October 2008 at Kgoro Primary School, in Zithobeni township, within Kungwini Local Municipality. The cleaning campaign took place later during that day around the Zithobeni Township; it then proceeded on the 8th at Ekangala, the 09th at Steve Biko Ville and was officially closed by the Executive Mayor of Nokeng Tsa Taemane, Ms A Digoro at Refilwe. The Ward Councillors, SDW’s, community members, youth, and schools all participated in the programme.
